Ordering a custom piece of art, for yourself or for someone else, is a deeply personal thing. Collaborating with an artist to bring your imagery to life, whether as a meaningful gift or a way to add something special to your home, can be a really exciting process! I feel incredibly honored to be considered to help achieve your vision. Here are a few things to know before ordering a commission.
I paint mostly intuitively once the overall composition is decided, and many decisions get made along the way. I ask that you allow room for my creative vision and style choices, and keep an open mind throughout the process.

Timeline
Reach Out
Fill out the contact form below. I'll respond by email within 3-5 business days with questions about your project so we can align on vision and discuss surfaces, size options, mediums, style decisions, timing, and a final quote.
Deposit and Contract
Once we're aligned on the vision, I'll send an invoice for a 50% deposit as well as a short contract. Once the contract is signed, payment is due within 10 days. Please be sure to read the FAQ for deposit and refund information.
Preliminary Sketch
After the deposit is paid, you'll receive a preliminary sketch within 14 days to confirm the composition is in line with your vision. Two complimentary composition revisions are included.
Painting
This is when the real work begins! Most pieces take about 4-6 weeks, though timing varies with size and medium, and a large oil piece can take up to six months. Your official timeline will be estimated during our initial email consult and then finalized upon receipt of deposit.
Final Revision
Once the painting is nearly complete, I'll offer one complimentary revision to the final design. We can talk through what's possible, like adding contrast or emphasis in one area, or adding glazing for more depth of color. Additional revisions may incur fees, and all costs will be quoted and approved by you before any changes are made.
Drying, Curing, and Varnishing
Depending on the materials, a piece may need time to dry, cure, and be varnished before it can ship. We'll discuss this waiting period during planning to avoid surprises, and I'll let you know right away if anything changes.
Final Invoice and Shipping
When the piece is complete, I'll send an invoice for the remaining 50%. Payment is due within 10 days.Once the final invoice is paid, your piece will be signed, wrapped with a thank-you letter and certificate of authenticity, and shipped straight to your home.
Lets get started!
Commission FAQ
How long is it really going to take?
Every project is different. Some take 4-6 weeks and some up to six months, depending on size and materials. We'll set a rough draft timeline during the initial email phase.
Can I get my project rushed?
Depending on the scope and materials, I'm open to a quicker timeline, which will include a rush fee. Let's talk about your timeline!
What is your refund policy?
The 50% deposit is non-refundable, but it may convert to store credit depending on when you decide to forfeit your commission:
- Before you receive a sketch: the full deposit becomes store credit toward any purchase on my website.
- After you receive a sketch or revisions: half of the deposit becomes store credit, and the other half is kept to cover the time spent and materials used.
- After the sketch is approved and the final piece is started: the deposit is non-refundable and cannot be used as credit.
- After the piece is complete and paid for: no refunds are offered, except for damage in shipping (see below).
What if my piece gets damaged in shipping?
Please send photos within 48 hours of receiving it. We'll discuss repairs, recreation, or refunds case by case.
What if the artist cancels?
If at any point I decline the commission or am unable to complete it for any reason, your deposit is fully refundable.
Will the colors match what I see on screen?
Once I send photos of the finished piece, please know there may be very slight differences between how color appears on a phone or computer and the real painting in natural light.
What subject matter do you paint?
Subject matter is approved or declined case by case. I don't recreate copyrighted works or NSFW imagery. If you're providing reference images, please make sure you have the right to use them. I may also decline or substitute references at my discretion.
How will I know how things are going?
I'm a huge fan of communication! We'll set expectations for working, drying, and shipping times in our initial emails, and I'll contact you by email promptly if anything changes.
Who "Owns" the painting?
You'll own the one and only original painting. I retain the copyright and reproduction rights, example: prints, products, ect. Purchasing a commission doesn't give you the right to recreate or reproduce the artwork in any form. I also reserve the right to use photos and recordings from the process for my own use and social media. I'm happy to discuss the timing of posts, especially if the piece is a surprise or made for a special event.
If you're commissioning a piece meant for reproduction, illustration, product labels, or covers, that requires a longer discussion and possible licensing fees, determined in a signed contract.
What if I take longer to pay off the final invoice?
If the final invoice remains unpaid and I haven't heard from you after 90 days, I may consider the piece abandoned and offer it for sale. In that case, the deposit is not refunded.
I reserve the right to decline any commission for any reason.
